The Graphica User Interface (GUI)
Preamble
The graphical user interface (GUI) of all admin functions are designed to be operated on a desktop or laptop computer with these characteristics:
- the screen or attached monitor is in landscape mode,
- the screen or attached monitor has a min. resolution of 1.600 x 900 pixels,
- the computer has a pointing device (mouse, pen or touchpad) capable of "right click" to open context menus,
- the computer OS has a pointer/cursor (note that iOS does not support a pointer, it runs only on touch enabled screens)
- the computer has a physical keyboard,
- the computer has a modern browser (in this respect MS Internet Explorer is not considered modern!)
- the computer has access to the internet. (you do not need a fast connection as long as it's a stable connection)
That said it is possible to create and maintain content and perform configuration - even installation - from a mobile device. We have done it and you can do it. Just remember to be patient and accept that some icons and text boxes will be quite small. However, when you have familiarized yourself with the n-gen CMS operating the system from a small scale device becomes a lot easier and absolutely doable.
During installation
When you install n-gen.net CMS you will be presented buttons with different colors. See the left panel for examples.
When a blue button turns green et means that the step was correctly completed. If a button turns red it means that something went wrong.
If something goes wrong do not automatically assume that it is a bug or a technical error. Try to check your input; in most cases it is just a simple typo or that you entered a wrong value that is causing the error.
When you are using the system
When you are using the system as an Admin you will regularly see blue buttons or fields that require your input or action. Still many required fields, icons and buttons are not blue. In general terms nothing will be committed to the database before a blue button is clicked/tapped. So if you make a mess of something before a blue button is clicked/tapped you can simply refresh the content in the browser and you will see whatever is stored in the database or on the server. Note that an exception from this behavior is the file manager. If you upload, rename, move or delete a file from your server using the file manager the actions are performed immediately.
